​ We are a new Eagle Watchers Association in Douglas County, with our home base being the Town of Lecompton Kansas. Lecompton was once known as Bald Eagle before its name changed in 1854. With its historical heritage and the community's love for the Bald Eagle it is only fitting that it proclaims itself as
"Home of the Bald Eagle". (Read more about this in our News Section).
What a great place to start an association. Though our main focus will be projects here in Lecompton and the surrounding area, we want to reach out to people all across the country and invite them to join us on this exciting adventure.

RESEARCH, PROTECTION, EDUCATION
OUR MISSION

RESEARCH Local population and history of the Bald Eagle in Douglas and Jefferson County. We will be researching two nesting sites on the Kaw River in the Lecompton area. Research will also be done on waterfowl hunting in this area and its effects on the wintering Eagle migration.

PROTECTION To advocate for the Bald Eagle's protection by seeking permission to place signage where necessary.

EDUCATION Engage the public about its neighboring Bald Eagles through special events, educational programs and best ways of viewing these majestic birds.

This will be a huge endeavor for us. We have Faith that somehow, we can make this happen. It will take a lot of work on our part and help from resources in and outside our community. Our goal is to have an Eagle Cam up and running in one of the two nests we are researching by OCTOBER 2026. We need your support to make this happen. Through membership, partnership, grant resources, fundraising and donations we believe this goal is possible.
